Why the Name Ether?

Aside from being a class of organic compounds and one of the greatest Hip Hop tracks to ever be recorded in a Hip Hop Battle series, the title Ether is actually tied to the culture and values from which our collective derives. You’ll find Ether as a substance that was used by alchemists for transmutation. Ancient & medieval folklore refers to “Ether” as the fifth element or quintessence, “the material that fills the region of the universe beyond the terrestrial sphere.” And we acknowledge the validity of these statements as we observe the power of this intangible substance through the experience of the Cypher.

Hip Hop is known most for its primary four elements Deejaying, Breakdancing, Emceeing and Graffitti. However true lovers of the art form are cognisant that there are many more elements that are worth acknowledging, in particular the 5th element. Many refer to the 5th element of Hip Hop as Knowledge, that which is passed on from one generation to the next. Other’s refer to it as  Energy, like what is transferred in the Cypher from one artist to the next. We recognize it as the Ether, an immaterial substance that can’t be captured but transferred from one being to the next…Ultimately it is beyond words for Ether is all that and more, which is probably why we see it depicted so many fantasy stories, like the midi-chlorians of the Jedi, the Avatar State in the Last Air Bender and the love that powers Lilu to save the world in the movie “The Fifth Element”. A force that can be used for creation, destruction & transmutation, it is Spirit. Thus we chose to name our collective by it cause we found it to be a vital component to all matters of change.

Purpose driven work is always spirit led. It is God inspired. We found that though many business persons exercise their knowledge and their skills to make gains in their work, it is the exercising of one's spirit force that truly empowers pure Hip Hoppers to deliver transformative work beyond comparison... If it isn’t obvious yet, the culture of Hip Hop laid the foundation for our firm. We are in the community, we are grassroot, we are serving the people… and we’re aware of our value.
